So, am I the only one on the interwebs who didn’t like the new Star Trek that much?

  • It wasn’t the instant classic I hoped it would be.
  • It was way too violent and action-centric.
  • Putting the theme song at the end sucked.
  • For me Star Trek was never an action movie/series. It was about reflecting “current affairs”, philosophize here and there with a social twist between the characters. Nothing of that in Star Trek ‘09. It felt more like Starship Troopers (which was awesome btw).
  • The whole setting of Nero and his gang just felt cheapish. I know this movie played before all the other ones (which is such a cheap marketing stunt to sell just another movie under a previously successful brand) but it felt way out of touch with the original Star Trek atmosphere. All these silly construction sites and steel girder, the water inside the spaceship, the CRT monitors they used - it was out of touch with the futuristic idea Star Trek always incorporated for me.
  • And to be honest, I hated this pimp attitude of Kirk. It was also quite a stretch how easily he got into the captain’s chair. I looked at all the other fleet cadets and thought, okay, either they have hundreds of new ships to manning or they are totally stupid relatively to Kirk and will drop out later.
